OpenAI is building the ad platform faster than most people expected: 10 ChatGPT Ads updates from 9/2026

2–3 min read

OpenAI shipped ten updates to ChatGPT Ads this week. Conversion optimization with impression billing is now generally available, attribution windows are adjustable, targeting can be set per platform, Shopify and HubSpot integrations are live, and Sponsored Agents are in a US test.

At Parvi, the thing we notice is the pace. Ads went live in Europe on 24 August. Three weeks later the platform has the measurement and targeting controls that took the older ad platforms years to add. Three of the ten matter to us right away.

Conversion optimization that counts views, not only clicks. The new campaign type bills on impressions and optimizes toward conversions from both ad clicks and ad views. That is a different bet from paying per click: you are trusting the platform to find the conversations where showing up leads to a conversion later, even without a click. It only works if your conversion tracking is solid, which is presumably why OpenAI shipped an Event Quality Score in the same week. Set up the pixel properly first, then switch the billing model.

Targeting by platform. You can now target Android app, Android web, desktop web, iOS app and iOS web separately, and read results per platform. In our own campaigns, still a small sample, Android traffic has been clearly weaker in quality than iOS and desktop. Until now there was no way to act on that. Now there is. Whether the pattern holds at scale is something the per-platform reporting will tell us.

Text customization. This is the one I want to test most. Advertisers can opt in to let ChatGPT adapt existing headlines and descriptions to the context of the conversation, and translate them into the user’s language. Google’s AI Max does something that sounds similar, but it works from your landing page and keywords. It does not have twenty minutes of a person describing their situation to work from. My belief is that this is the feature that moves click-through rates on the platform, more than any bidding change. It stays an opinion until we have run it.

The honest counterweight: a platform changing this fast is also a platform changing under you. Reporting definitions moved within weeks of launch, and view-through conversions are reported separately from the main conversion column, so month-to-month comparisons need care. Sponsored Agents, where an ad opens into a conversation with a business-sponsored agent, is the update that fits our view of where this is going, and it is US-only for now.

What to do this week, if you advertise on ChatGPT or plan to: check your Event Quality Score, look at your results by platform, and decide whether text customization is a test you want to run. If you want to talk through what these updates mean for your account, book a call with your Growth Strategist. Our ChatGPT Ads pilot now includes these controls from day one.
